Due to high student demand during the first 2 weeks of the term, we will have an advisor available for drop-in advising M-Th 8:00-4:30 and F 10:00-4:30. 7. Spring Semester RA Position: Child Persistence, Motivation to Master the Environment, and Resilience
Our lab at the Institute of Child Development investigates the processes that help children who face adversity nonetheless attain resilient and adaptive outcomes. We are looking for Research Assistants who can help with an advanced coding project. The RA will gain significant research experience. escription of Activities: We have videotapes of young children interacting with various fun toys for 5 minutes. RAs watch the videos and code every 15 seconds of these videos on items such as "task orientation," "persistence," and "positive emotion," among others. This is an advanced coding system, and you will receive extensive training on the coding process in order to achieve reliability with the anchor coder, as well as ongoing support throughout the project. Your input into how the coding process can be modified and improved will also be welcomed. This project requires significant detail-orientation and a focus on precision. This position may be of particular interest to individuals who think they may be interested in graduate school and/or want to learn more about how research labs work. We are looking for individuals who can commit at least 7-10 hours/week.

8. VA Cognitive Neuroimaging Lab Seeking Research Assistants
The Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System is conducting research on the brain, evaluating hypotheses on higher cognitive processes and aging. There is an opportunity for 2 undergraduate students to become involved with this project to gain experience in learning brain’s functions and interaction with aging. Students will work as part of a research team lead by a Medical Doctor (PhD and M.D) and will be involved in reviewing literature, entering data, looking at brain scans through advanced neuroimaging technologies, and evaluating data. Must have minimum elementary knowledge of brain functions, be a curious and eager learner, interested in increasing your neuroscience knowledge, motivated. Potential to boost your CV with conference presentations & journal publication.
All research activities are conducted at the VA Health Care System in Minneapolis. Students must be able to commute to VA (on Metro Blue Line). Students must be able to commit to minimum of 5 hours (10 preferred) per week during the Spring Semester between 8am and 5pm. Additional potential hours in summer and next Fall may be available. A course in cognitive, neuropsych, or biological psychology required and at least one course in statistics with B+ or better.

9. Fall 2016 UROP Proposals Due February 29th
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides grants of up to $1,700 for undergraduates either to work with a faculty member on her/his scholarly or creative project or to carry out a project of the student's own design in close collaboration with a faculty sponsor. Participating students have developed detailed knowledge of research methods while their faculty sponsors have gained the assistance of enthusiastic and capable students. The Department of Psychology's Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement are available to support you! The purpose of these awards is to encourage and support psychology majors who engage in learning experiences beyond the University campus and classroom environments (i.e. unpaid internships, volunteer experiences, study abroad containing a psych-related internship or research component, etc.). 15. Job & Internship Opportunities at ACR Homes
ACR Homes is currently in need of additional staffing for a direct care position titled "Program Counselor," which involves working with individuals that have physical/developmental disabilities. Some roles of a PC include escorting residents to appointments, administering medications, providing care for daily activities, preparing meals, documenting legal health information, and taking residents on community outings. There are no specific qualifications for this job. However, the position does require training before being permitted to work at any home, which covers first-aid, CPR, medication administration, how to handle behaviors, and other classes depending on your assigned home. Training can take up to two weeks, but the good news is that all training is paid! ACR Homes requires a minimum of 12 hours a week (around two shifts), and we prefer staff to commit for at least 6 months. If you do not have a source of transportation, we have a car program available for all employees. The Program Counselor position pays $11.00/hr during weekdays, $12.75 if working an awake night. During weekends, you would make $12.81 for day and evening shifts, and $15.00 for awake nights.
We also have an internship program for any employee planning to pursue nursing, pharmacy, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other health-based careers. We can even create a new internship based on your interests, as long as you are an employee.

The MN Center for Twin and Family Research has four Undergraduate Research Assistant (Student Academic Support) positions available. Jobs begin ASAP. 17. Paid Undergraduate Research Assistant Positions in Chicago Longitudinal Study
The Chicago Longitudinal Study (CLS) is seeking undergraduate research assistants (URAs) to start immediately. Since 1985, the CLS has been following up with a group of 1,500 low-income individuals who attended Kindergarten in Chicago Public Schools. Intervention group members attended the Child-Parent Center (CPC) Program, the oldest federally funded extended early childhood intervention. Previous results have been published in top scientific journals and have informed educational policy at the local and national levels. They also enabled the project's team to win a $15 million U.S. Department of Education grant to expand the CPC Program across the Midwest. 3. Research Assistant Needed for Political Psychology Lab
The Political Psychology Lab is looking for one undergraduate research assistant to start work immediately, earning research credit for PSY 5993. The RA will be assisting with managing studies on all different stages, including literature review, creating surveys, collecting data, cleaning data, and data analysis. The RA will be involved in one or more of the studies about political belief, morality and culture. The position runs during the Spring semester, with the opportunity to continue into the Fall. RAs will be expected to work approximately 9 hours per week (may vary across weeks). Strong candidates for this position will be conscientious, bright, motivated students interested in the research process. Preference will be given to students with previous research experience. 5. Center for Visual Science Undergrad Fellowship Applications Open Now
The Center for Visual Science at the University of Rochester announces its 2016 Summer Research Fellowship Program in Vision Science. Undergraduates in their junior (3rd) year during the 2015-2016 academic year of baccalaureate studies interested in neuroscience, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and biomedical science are invited to join the Center for Visual Science for a summer of supervised laboratory training. Psychology Advising
1. Spring 2016 Advising Hours
Psychology Undergraduate Advising has designated Drop-in Hours during the academic year. Due to high student demand the first 2 weeks of the term, we will have an advisor available all day during our normal office hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:30 and Friday 10:00-4:30. Drop-in hours are a great time to get research contracts signed, and to ask 5-10 minute questions; longer issues will be referred to schedule a full appointment. Our normal drop-in hours will take effect on Tuesday, February 2nd. Please see our website for more information on our Office Hours & Availability. Check the Psych Scoop each week for possible change in availability.

Research
IMPORTANT: Not all research opportunities listed below are affiliated with the Department of Psychology. If you are receiving credit for a research experience outside the Psychology Department, you will need to check with Psycholgoy Advising about how it will fit into your academic program.
3. Child Psychology Lab Seeking Research Assistants
The Relationships Research Lab (Roisman) is currently seeking undergraduate RAs to work on The Development of Relationship Expectations across Childhood study. This research examines individual differences in the development of children’s expectations regarding relationships and knowledge of secure base scripts throughout childhood. Major responsibilities will include transcription of children’s narratives. Additional opportunities to gain research experience will be available, including opportunities to attend regular lab meetings and discuss ongoing and future research questions. Responsibilities will require approximately 10 hours per week (45 hours throughout the semester). We require a 3-credit commitment. Please email Prof. Roisman at roism001@umn.edu to express your interest in a position.
4. Registering for Research with a Child Psychology Faculty Member
If you are planning to work in a Child Development research lab (with a Faculty member from the Institute of Child Psychology) and register for CPsy 4994 credit, this experience may be used towards the Psychology major. In order to use CPsy 4994 for credit toward your psychology major, you must fill out a Psychology Undergraduate Research Contract and have it approved by Psychology Advising before the end of the 2nd week of the term. If you do not fill out an Psychology Undergraduate Research Contract by the deadline, the credit will not be applicable towards your Psychology major. Do you have a big idea to address a global challenge? Win $6000+! The Acara Challenge and D-Prize are partnering to offer our annual UMN social venture plan competition to support students creating entrepreneurial solutions to the world's greatest social and environmental challenges.
The Acara Challenge provides challenges topics, funding, and mentorship for students designing new social enterprise solutions to distribute an effective poverty solution. Challenge areas may include girl's education, energy, government and infrastructure, global health, general education, or your own challenge area. Visit our website to select your Acara D-Prize challenge. What: Students identify a challenge, develop a social venture solution, and compete for funding to address global poverty challenges. Who: All current degree-seeking UMN students who are up for the challenge. Must have an idea for a social venture to apply. Applicants may be individuals or teams. Global Seminars are three-week study abroad programs led by University of Minnesota faculty and staff.
