1.Winter Break Advising Hours
Psychology Undergraduate Advising will be closed next week Monday, December 23rd - Wednesday, December 25th. Winter break availability will run from Thursday, December 26th - Tuesday, January 21st. Because advisor availability fluctuates, we will not hold drop-in hours during this time period. We will be available to meet with students through appointments only. If you would like to meet with an advisor, please submit an Appointment Request Form. With the exception of official University Holidays (12/23, 12/24, 12/25 and 1/1), our office will remain open during our usual operating hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. We will still be checking and responding to emails frequently during our business hours, so feel free to contact us with your questions at psyadvis@umn.edu.

2.Call for Undergraduate Research Papers at UCLA
Have you recently completed a research paper in a psychology-related field? Looking for a platform to broadcast and publish your work? If so, the Undergraduate Research Journal of Psychology at UCLA (URJP) cordially invites you to submit your papers for our inaugural publication, expected to be published in Spring 2014. URJP is an annual publication of collaborative efforts between students at UCLA and neighboring universities, which publishes undergraduate research in psychology and psychology-related fields (i.e., neuroscience, linguistics, and cognitive science) as long as the papers: Are original work completed by undergraduates (can be: senior honors theses, independent research projects, literature reviews, theoretical papers, and other scholarly writing); have never been published before; and fit the submissions criteria. 3.Summer Research Experience in Neuropsychiatric Genomics
The Conte Center for Computational Neuropsychiatric Genomics is offering an REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program this summer. The Center seeks qualified undergraduates for 2014 REU fellowships. Stipends are $4,000 for ten-week projects. They will be awarded on a competitive basis based on academic excellence, motivation, scientific potential, compatibility of personal interests, and long-term career goals aligned with research programs of the Conte Center. Applicants with computational science backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. All participants must be U.S. citizens (or permanent residents) and be enrolled in (but not yet graduated from) an accredited undergraduate college degree program with a concentration in a biological sciences field. If selected for the REU program, students will be matched with a research mentor. During the program participants will be invited to lab meetings and seminars. In addition, they will have access to libraries, athletic facilities, and University-sponsored events. At the conclusion of the summer projects, students will produce a summary report and present their findings at an REU Symposium in the Gordon Center for Integrative Science at the University of Chicago. 4.Present Your Empirical Psychology Research
You are invited to apply to present your empirical psychology research at the eight annual L. Starling Reid Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference at the University of Virginia. The conference takes place at the University of Virginia on April 11, 2014, but space is limited, so register early. Abstract proposals for oral or poster presentations may be submitted from Jan 6th - march 10th. To register and for further information please visit the website.

5.Summer Research Initiative
If you are interested in doing research this summer, the Summer Research Initiative (SRI) at the University of Maryland, College Park could be the perfect opportunity for you. 6.Alfred I Johnson Scholarship for Students Interested in Public Affairs
A. I. Johnson was the Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives and later a Regent of the University of Minnesota. This scholarship was created for undergraduate students who show a strong interest in public affairs with an intent to pursue a career or activities serving the public. Such careers and activities may include community volunteer activities, organizing to affect public policy, service on government advisory committees, and appointive or elective office. University of Minnesota--Twin Cities Campus students who are degree-seeking undergraduates and who possess a strong interest in public affairs and an intention to pursue a career or activities serving the public are eligible and encouraged to apply. 7.Kathrine E. Sullivan Scholarship for Study Abroad
This scholarship will provide up to $25,0000 to give one senior at any campus of the University of Minnesota the opportunity to enrich her or his academic experience with a fifth year of undergraduate study in another country. The scholarship is intended to support credit-bearing and usually classroom-based study abroad that immerses the student in the host university as well as in the host culture. Proposals should be for full-time study for a full academic year or the equivalent. Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates at any University of Minnesota campus; must have senior status (at least 90 credits completed) by the end of Fall semester 2013 with at least 30 credits in residence at a University of Minnesota campus; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and should have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. 8.New Neuroscience Course (NSCI 3100) Counts for BS Outside Foundation Coursework
For those of you who are interested in a new course being offered by the Neuroscience Department (NSCI 3100, Mind and Brain), the course will count towards the Psychology Bachelor of Science Outside Foundation Coursework in the Area D. Biological Science Foundation Cluster. The course was not added to the Onestop class schedule in time for the start of registration, therefore, you will need to register for section 001 of Nsci 4151. The topic of this course will cover the implications of the physical nature of the mind, with an emphasis on decision-making as an entry point into neuroscience and psychology.

9.HORT 4000: Spring Break Study Abroad Opportunity
We know many of you have already registered for spring semester classes so we would like to take some time to encourage you to enroll in another exciting course! HORT 4000 is a unique class that features a study abroad component during spring break. This class is focused on promoting school gardens and healthy eating options for school aged children. If you would like to spend spring break in England learning about community gardens, and teaching students about about the many benefits of school gardens, this is the perfect opportunity. 10.Student Assistant Position in Office of International Programs CFANS
The Office of International Programs in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences is seeking applicants for a student assistant position (188525) to support study abroad and internationalization projects. We welcome undergraduate applicants from all UMTC Colleges. This dynamic position will provide administrative, communication, and research support to Study abroad programming and internationalization efforts in OIP. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be equally comfortable with research and data organization. In addition, this position requires a high level of professionalism, collaboration and execution skills, and an ability to work in ambiguous settings. The ideal candidate would have previous study abroad experience, be familiar with CFANS majors and study abroad programs, and possess experience with web sites and social media tools. 11.Direct Care Counselors Needed for Group Home--Part Time/Weekends
Dependable Home Health Care is seeking several Direct Care Counselors to join the teams at group homes in Northern Ramsey Count. The Direct Care Counselor will work directly with persons served in the implementation of the written Individual Support Plans, documenting progress and response to program services, and ensuring the safety and well-being of each person. This individual generally works without direct immediate supervision in the performance of assigned tasks. Individual would only be expected to work about 1 weekend per month. 13.Research Assistant Job Opportunities for Graduating Seniors
The National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, MD has employment opportunities at the Section on Bipolar Spectrum Disorders (BSD). BSD seeks qualified individuals to fill Research Assistant positions, with employment starting May/June 2014. BSD conducts research on the pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of childhood mental illnesses, with an emphasis on bipolar disorder and severe irritability (SMD) in children. Research assistants are involved in all aspects of the clinical research process, including analyzing data and interacting with patients.
