Our community-based model provides mental health services, case management, and care coordination for adults living with serious mental illness. Our goal is to partner with clients to enhance their ability to live full and independent lives in the community. With over 200 full-time staff, MHR is one of the largest community mental health providers in the Twin Cities. 9. Your Voice Matters! Academic Advising Task Force Listening Sessions
The Academic Advising Task Force makes recommendations aimed at enhancing the advising experience for undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Task Force members will be spending the next month conducting Listening Sessions across campus to gather feedback from the advising community, students, faculty, and other stakeholders regarding these initial recommendations. 10. NSCI 3100: Mind & Brain - Usable for Psychology BS Outside Foundation
Looking for a course to take for spring to fulfill Psychology BS Outside Foundation requirements? NSCI 3100: Mind & Brain will count toward the Biological Sciences Foundation Cluster (Area D) of thePsychology Outside Foundation coursework. This course will cover topics such as decision-making, memory, imagination, cognition, neural systems of self-control, and the consequences of the physical mind. We will take a neuroscience and psychological perspective in which the physical neuroscience instantiates but does not diminish the psychological constructs. Although our conceptual framework will be computational, this course will not require or expect any mathematical or computer background. No prerequisites are required, but students are encouraged to have taken NSCI 1001 or NSCI 1100. For more information, contact Dr. David Redish at redish@umn.edu

Working on a class project that requires library research? Peer Research Consultants are here to help! PRCs provide one-on-one assistance and give students an overview of using the libraries for research, formulating a paper topic and search, helping students to find scholarly articles, books, and more based on an individual's needs. They are upper-level undergraduates who have gone through 10+ hours of training on using the libraries. Using University libraries can be intimidating. The PRCs guide students to the subject librarians when needed and make it easier for students to set up that interaction. 14. Apply for this Year's Social Justice Leadership Retreat!
The University of Minnesota offers many opportunities, but few are as meaningful and powerful as the annual Social Justice Leadership Retreat (SJLR). The SJLR focuses on developing and fostering diversity and social justice leaders committed to improving the campus climate for all students and working towards a more just and equitable society. This year's SJLR will take place from January 16th - January 18th, 2016. The 3 day retreat takes students and facilitators away from campus to explore issues of identity, oppression, and how to make an impact on campus and in the community after the retreat. Over 600 students have attended our retreats over the last nine years and those students are having a powerful impact on campus and in the community using what they learned and the connections they made. To find out more information about the retreat and to apply, please check out their website. The application deadline for the retreat is Tuesday, December 2nd at noon.

15. MN Capitol Pathways Paid Internship Program for College Students of Color
Through this program, interns will build relationships with established capitol leaders, gain exposure to various kinds of careers in policy, and get real-world experience in career fields they would like to learn more about — and build a strong professional resume in the process. Interns will be placed for 10 hours weekly for 12 weeks with a host site working at or around the 2016 Minnesota Legislative Session. Any student in good academic standing at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher education who identifies as a person of color may apply to participate. 17. Full Time Position with Natalis Outcomes
Natalis Outcomes is seeking candidates to interview for a full-time care management position. Principle duties include the following: (1) coordinating team-based care for persons with complex medical or health conditions; (2) tracking and communicating care outcomes between primary and specialty care; (3) counseling persons in need of community resources; (4) providing motivational interviewing and psychosocial support to help clients manage social, environmental and economic determinants of health; and (5) effectively working with Medicaid Managed Care staff. Qualifications include the following: (1) a recent or 2016 bachelor’s degree in psychology; (2) experience working on a close-knit team; (3) good verbal communication and personal rapport building skills; (4) knowledge or experience with electronic databases for health and human services; (5) good personal organization skills for scheduling, billing and tracking service activities; and (6) an ability to meet urgent client help requests and unexpected needs outside of normal business hours.
The total compensation package of $17 per hour includes a base rate of $14.30 per hour, and employee benefits and employer payroll taxes of $2.70 per hour. This is an exempt position, i.e. no overtime pay. The limited benefits’ package includes a small company contribution to a group life/disability insurance plan, a monthly medical expense and cell phone stipend.
Applicants must be able to provide (1) a valid driver’s license, (2) proof of valid auto insurance, (3) a reliable personal vehicle, (4) willingness to travel throughout the Twin Cities metro area (mileage reimbursement is available), and (5) a personal cell phone ($50 monthly stipend given) for work use and authorization for a criminal background check. The Central Intelligence Agency is interested in meeting with students from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. Agency representatives will cover a broad range of topics to include the Agency's mission, potential career opportunities, the online process, an overview of the security and medical screening process; and there will be a question-and-answer period. 11. National Alliance on Mental Illness State Conference: Forging a Better Future
Saturday, November 7th, 8:30am-5:00pm; RiverCentre, St. Paul; Registration Required!
NAMI Minnesota's State Conference will be held Nov. 7, at the RiverCentre in St. Paul. The opening keynote speaker will be Lisa Dixon, M.D., professor of psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center, and director of the Center for Practice Innovations at New York State Hospital. Dr. Dixon is an internationally recognized health services researcher with over 25 years of continuous funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and the VA. The closing keynoter will be activist and comedian Kevin Breel, known widely for his virally viewed TED Talk, "Confessions of a Depressed Comic" which gives voice to an often silent struggle and offers a message of hope. The conference will also include a Youth Track. A more detailed agenda will be posted soon.The cost for students is $35, and there are limited partial scholarships available. Lunch is included. As fall semester is now in full swing, this time of year can also be a time of transition, increasing demand, and heightened stress. It can sometimes be difficult to find the right balance. We want to make sure that you know that the University has a number of resources available to help students through tough times. Go to the Student Mental Health website to find information about the various University of Minnesota mental health resources available to students. These resources may be of assistance to you, as well as friends who may be experiencing emotions and/or displaying behavior that concerns you.
14. University Libraries
The U Libraries are a great resource for students! They have free workshops, tutorials and services! There are Peer Research Consultants who provide one-on-one assistance to students to help them develop academic research strategies and navigate the . The Libraries also sponsor an Online Assignment Calculator that allows students to keep track of due dates and receive step-by-step instructions to stay on top of assignments like a research papers, presentations, projects, UROP proposals, and more. If you aren't sure where to start with conducting research in the library system, there is an Online Tutorial to walk you through the basics of using the University Libraries, the website, and finding academic sources. Learning Abroad
15. Volunteer over Spring Break in Ecuador or Guatemala
Applications for the Learning Abroad Center's volunteer and community engagement Spring Break programs are due November 2nd. On the Volunteer & Community Engagement in Ecuador program, students will spend spring break in Ecuador volunteering and engaging with the local community. They will explore colonial Quito, a cloud forest reserve, and the beautiful Andes mountains; volunteer at a community-based project in a rural area; and live with a host family. On the Volunteer & Community Engagement in Guatemala program, students will explore the colonial city of Antigua during spring break. They will engage with local community members through volunteer activities, homestays, and Spanish tutoring. Volunteer projects include education, social work, and construction. 16. Start the Semester Off On the Wrong Foot? LASK 1101 Can Help
If you're having some difficulties this semester, LASK 1101: Academic Refresher might be a great B-term course for you. LASK 1101 is a 1-credit, mid-semester course that offers assistance over the 2nd half of the semester to students experiencing academic concerns. In LASK 1101, students receive weekly instruction and the opportunity to consult with students facing similar challenges. A permission number is not needed to register for this course. You may find the course listed in the Class Search, using "LASK" as a subject search term. See the Student Academic Success Services (SASS) websitefor more information.

17. Consumer Advocate Position with MN Attorney General Lori Swanson
The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is seeking a Consumer Advocate. Consumer Advocates assist and advocate for Minnesota citizens on an array of different issues. They research and analyze complex laws and problems and communicate with a variety of parties to help forge solutions that benefit individual consumers and make a difference in their lives. 18. Entry-Level Cognitive Trainer Position Openings
LearningRX has positions open for Cognitive Trainers in Chanhassen, Maple Grove and Vadnais Heights. Come join the LearningRx cognitive skills training team and help change lives by improving cognitive ability! Our part-time Cognitive Skills Trainers work one-on-one with individuals utilizing clinically-proven procedures to improve areas such as memory, attention, auditory processing and IQ. We are looking for quick thinking, high energy individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree or are in their junior/senior year. Hours are flexible but we require at least four days with availability between the hours of 4PM-8PM. This is a great long-term part-time position for individuals seeking psychology experience. 19. Active Recess Volunteers Needed at Windom Elementary
Active Recess is an approach designed to increase the physical activity of students during recess, as well as decrease incidents of problem behavior on the playground. Volunteers will assist the "Recess Squad" (a group of Windom students) in setting up and supervising the Play Stations, and will promote positive interactions between the students and/or assist in conflict resolution when problems arise. Volunteers will also provide the school's Behavior Mitigation Team with feedback, input and suggestions, based on their observations, on how to mitigate student behaviors, improve the recess experience for the entire student body, and/or for specific students who need extra behavior support during recess. The schedule for this volunteer opportunity is between 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Being able to speak and understand Spanish is a plus, but is not required for this position. 20. AmeriCorps Positions with College Possible
College Possible is a growing nonprofit dedicated to coaching low-income students to-and-through college, breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering our workforce. Our rigorously-tested model earns top-of-field results that have helped 98 percent of students served earn admission to college and supported nearly 80 percent through graduation. A 2011 Harvard study found that the program more than doubles a student's chance of enrolling in a four-year college. As an AmeriCorps organization, College Possible is recruiting college graduates to serve for one year to help make a college degree and college success possible for low-income students. With positions ranging from working directly with students to writing grants to coordinating events, there are many opportunities offered. Not only do College Possible AmeriCorps members make a difference in their community, they gain valuable experience for their next job or graduate school endeavor. Between performances, students could balance a peacock feather, juggle, ride a unicycle, attempt yo-yo tricks, and visit therapy animals—including a Woodstock the therapy chicken! They could also flex their mental muscles at tables featuring stress reduction and mental health resources available through the Provost’s Committee on Student Mental Health, Boynton Health Service, University Counseling and Consulting Services, the Center for Spirituality and Healing, the Aurora Center, the Fitness / Wellness program at Recreational Sports, Active minds, the Rothenberger Institute, the Department of Psychology, the Animal Assisted Interactions program at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Disabled Student Cultural Center, and others. Join us for a conversation with Andrew Solomon, a writer of remarkable talent and intellect. In his books and essays Solomon explores the subjects of politics, culture, and psychology with extraordinary humanity. His worldwide bestseller, The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression, received the 2001 National Book Award and was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His newest book, Far From the Tree: Parents, Children & the Search for Identity, is an examination of the means by which families accommodate children with physical, mental, and social disabilities and how these unusual situations can be invested with love.
