1.Psychology Diversity Expo! Wednesday March 5th
The Psychology Undergraduate Diversity Council is a student advisory group dedicated to engaging diverse perspectives and ensuring accessibility of services and programs within the psychology undergraduate program. The Diversity Council will be hosting the very first Psychology Diversity Expo on Wednesday, March 5th. This event will feature programs and services that support students' academic success, engagement and goals. Students are welcome to come and go throughout the Expo. Speak with researchers in psychology labs, learn about summer research programs for multicultural and first generation students, become familiar with Career Services' resources, speak to Psychology grad program staff. Refreshments will be served, and students will have the chance to be entered into a prize drawing. The event will be held Wednesday, March 5th 2-4pm in N639 Elliott Hall. No RSVP necessary. College Possible is a growing nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income students get to and through college. We are powered by AmeriCorps and VISTA members who help high school students earn admission to college, support college students to graduation, and do indirect service in event planning, communications, fundraising, and human resources. 7.Two Weeks Left to Apply to the Yale Cognition & Development Summer Internship!
Applications for the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2014 Research Internship Program are now available online. Our annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in cognitive science and developmental psychology in close partnership with our full-time lab members. Complete information about our research and internship program, as well as required application materials and an FAQ page, can be downloaded online. This year's internship will run from Mon, June 2 to Wed, July 30, 2014, and all applications should be received no later than Friday, March 7, 2014. 8.U Libraries Tools
We know you are busy with research papers and assignments right now, so take advantage of some resources and tools from the U Libraries. These free tools will help make the semester go smoothly. The Assignment Calculator: breaks down the research and writing steps for commons assignments like papers, speech, video, poster, etc. Students can personalize including changing dates and steps, They can sign up to get email reminders, too. Library Course Pages: There is a page for every course that gives students a great place to start their research with useful articles databases, tools, and videos customized to the course content including course reserves. Peer Research Consultants (PRCs): PRCs provide one-on-one assistance to students to help them develop the library and academic research strategies needed to find sources for an excellent research paper. They can give students an overview of using the libraries for research, formulating a paper topic and search, helping students to find scholarly articles, books, and more. PRCs have drop-in hours in Walter SMART or in MCAE in Appleby Hall or students can make an appointment. Check schedule online.

Kenwood Therapy Center is an innovative, 12-therapist clinic and training center in Minneapolis, MN. We currently have an opening in our volunteer program to assist in the front office as administrative support. Duties include scheduling clients, insurance benefit checks, and confidential phone intakes and referrals. Parts of this opportunity include the chance to speak to real people about real problems, and will provide context to further positions and graduate work. Experience, compassion, maturity, good judgment, and interest in working with clients with emotional, relational, sexual, and other serious life issues are important. This position is ideal for upperclassmen or individuals contemplating going on to graduate school in Psychology or Sociology, or other mental health fields; or someone interested in general work in a mental health clinic. We are looking for applicants that are able to commit for at least one year for approximately two four-hour shifts per week. This position would work with a family who is receiving Applied Behavior Analysis services through the Lovaas Institute. They are looking for a PCA in Mendota Heights for our 8 year old boy who has Autism. He is energetic and playful. He loves music, swimming, cooking, animals, playing with our dogs, and being outside. This Friday, February 21 from 10:00am - 4:00pm the University of Minnesota will host their annual Job & Internship Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Don't miss the biggest student career fair in Minnesota! More than 200 organizations will be there recruiting for hundreds of jobs and internships. 7.Developmental Psychopathology Research (Cicchetti Lab)
Researchers at the Institute of Child Development are currently seeking motivated undergraduate students who are interesting in participating in developmental psychopathology research. Our project may be of particular interest for those pursuing research experiences in clinical or developmental psychology, with emphasis on caregiver-child relations, social-emotion and language development. Students who are native English speakers and can commit to 6 to 10 hours a week with a minimum of 2 semesters are preferred. Lab duties include transcribing videos, coding linguistic and affective data, and data entry. Opportunities to be involved in professional presentations may be offered pending on the commitment of the student. Our project is flexible to the schedule of interested undergraduates and hours accrued this semester can be rolled over toward the next. Do something amazing this summer in an incredible part of the world! Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, For a Child's Smile is a non-religiously affiliated NGO based in Cambodia. Each year we run summer camps for Cambodian children to prevent them from working on rubbish dumps or doing other dangerous jobs. We are looking for committed, enthusiastic volunteers to help run our amazing summer camp experience this year. 17.Research Assistant Position Available at the VA Health Care System
We are currently accepting applications for a GS-7 level Research Assistant to join Project STRIVE - a randomized clinical trial investigating treatment for PTSD and co-morbid substance use disorder. Individuals interested in gaining applied research experience in order to advance their career development in the field of clinical psychology or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join an active team of clinician investigators at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System conducting research on post-deployment mental health among combat veterans, including post-traumatic stress, risk and resilience factors, and treatment outcome evaluation. The Research Assistant will work closely with study project coordinator and investigators to ensure research activities run smoothly. 7.Developmental Psychopathology Research (Cicchetti Lab)
Researchers at the Institute of Child Development are currently seeking motivated undergraduate students who are interesting in participating in developmental psychopathology research. Our project may be of particular interest for those pursuing research experiences in clinical or developmental psychology, with emphasis on caregiver-child relations, social-emotion and language development. Students who are native English speakers and can commit to 6 to 10 hours a week with a minimum of 2 semesters are preferred. Lab duties include transcribing videos, coding linguistic and affective data, and data entry. Opportunities to be involved in professional presentations may be offered pending on the commitment of the student. Our project is flexible to the schedule of interested undergraduates and hours accrued this semester can be rolled over toward the next. Kenwood Therapy Center is an innovative, 12-therapist clinic and training center in Minneapolis, MN. We currently have an opening in our volunteer program to assist in the front office as administrative support. Duties include scheduling clients, insurance benefit checks, and confidential phone intakes and referrals. Parts of this opportunity include the chance to speak to real people about real problems, and will provide context to further positions and graduate work. Experience, compassion, maturity, good judgment, and interest in working with clients with emotional, relational, sexual, and other serious life issues are important. We are currently accepting applications for a GS-7 level Research Assistant to join Project STRIVE - a randomized clinical trial investigating treatment for PTSD and co-morbid substance use disorder. Are you searching for research experience on a federally-funded study to strengthen your training and expertise? Would you like to learn about parent-child relationships in families experiencing military deployment? Are you interested in observing parents interact with their school-aged children? Are you interested in observing parents interact with their school-aged children? Are you reliable, detail-oriented, and a team player? If you answered yes to these questions and are interested in learning about observational coding on the ADAPT (After Deployment: Adaptive Parenting Tools) project in summer 2014, contact Dr. Osnat Zamir to learn more, or check out ADAPT online. The work includes assessment of parenting behaviors and dyadic/triadic relationship interactions. 9.Developmental Psychopathology Research (Cicchetti Lab)
Researchers at the Institute of Child Development are currently seeking motivated undergraduate students who are interesting in participating in developmental psychopathology research. Our project may be of particular interest for those pursuing research experiences in clinical or developmental psychology, with emphasis on caregiver-child relations, social-emotion and language development. Students who are native English speakers and can commit to 6 to 10 hours a week with a minimum of 2 semesters are preferred. Lab duties include transcribing videos, coding linguistic and affective data, and data entry. Opportunities to be involved in professional presentations may be offered pending on the commitment of the student. Our project is flexible to the schedule of interested undergraduates and hours accrued this semester can be rolled over toward the next. The purpose of this project is to examine the effects of data-based instruction for improving young students' writing performance. The tutors will deliver writing intervention three times per week for 30-min per session over 13 weeks with students in grade 1 to 3. We will have one-hour weekly meeting. Current research topics include self-control, perspective-taking and pretend play. Our undergraduates are an integral part of our lab, and participate in all levels of our research. From offering suggestions for developing protocols to running sessions with children and families, research assistants are afforded every opportunity to pursue their own interests and apply their own skills within our lab. 1.Spring 2014 Drop-In Hours for Psychology Advising
Psychology Undergraduate Advising has designated drop-in hours. While other units may have advisors available at all times, each advisor in our unit holds drop-in hours once a week and cannot address drop-in issues outside of these. While it may seem like a quick issue (such as signing a research contract), it often takes more time than expected and adds up when considering our large student population. To run efficiently and serve our students best, it is important that we recognize and respect these specified drop-in times. Due to high student demand, we will have an advisor available for 5 - 10 minute issues from 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday the remainder of this week. Our normal drop-in hours will take effect after Monday, February 3rd. This semester's drop-in hours for the Psychology Advisors can be found on our website.

1.Spring 2014 Drop-In Hours for Psychology Advising
Psychology Undergraduate Advising has designated drop-in hours. While other units may have advisors available at all times, each advisor in our unit holds drop-in hours once a week and cannot address drop-in issues outside of these. While it may seem like a quick issue (such as signing a research contract), it often takes more time than expected and adds up when considering our large student population. To run efficiently and serve our students best, it is important that we recognize and respect these specified drop-in times. Due to high student demand, we will have an advisor available for 5 - 10 minute issues from 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday the remainder of this week. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides grants of up to $1,700 for undergraduate students either to carry out a project of the student's own design in close collaboration with a faculty sponsor or work with a faculty member on her/his scholarly or creative project. Thousands of students and faculty across the University have already discovered the benefits of these hands-on research opportunities in laboratories, studios, libraries, and field sites. 8.The Carlson Child Development Lab is looking for research assistants
The Carlson Child Development Lab offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain valuable research experience and earn college credits while working with preschool and school-aged children in a laboratory setting. Current research topics include self-control, perspective-taking and pretend play. Our undergraduates are an integral part of our lab, and participate in all levels of our research. From offering suggestions for developing protocols to running sessions with children and families, research assistants are afforded every opportunity to pursue their own interests and apply their own skills within our lab. As a Carlson Lab RA, you will interact with some of the leading scientists in the field of child development,. You will also have the chance to contribute to presentations of our research at international conferences and be included in future publications. 9.DVBIC Research Intern
The research intern will assist research staff at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC). Responsibilities will include: preparing study materials, scoring clinical scales, working with testing software, verifying accuracy of study data, conducting computer-based cognitive testing, and assessing participants. This position will also involve working with relational databases and basic computer programming. The patient population will include military personnel or veterans with traumatic brain injury and other mental health issues. Qualified candidate must be highly motivated, able to work independently, extremely detail oriented, and willing to develop new skills as the need arises. Candidate must have excellent communication (written and oral), organizational and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills required; comfortable using basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and web applications. Some background with statistical software and relational databases. Minimum Experience: Pursuing a degree in psychology or related field. 10.NIDA Summer Research Opportunity
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) invites high school and undergraduate students to submit applications for the 2014 Summer Research Program. Under this program students underrepresented in the biomedical, social, clinical and behavioral sciences are paired with NIDA funded scientists at research institutions across the United States for 8-10 weeks during the summer to work in the field of substance abuse and addiction research. Internships may involve a variety of experiences including laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, patient interviews, and literature reviews. 19.Transfer Counselor Position at U of M Rochester
The University of Minnesota Rochester is seeking to fill a newly created position of Transfer Counselor in the Office of Admissions. This position will be responsible for the management of undergraduate transfer course evaluation and a web-based course equivalency database Degree Audit Report System (DARS) at UMR. The Transfer Counselor will work closely with UMTC staff to align UMR processes and procedures with regard to transfer. In addition, the Transfer Counselor will provide leadership in coordinating and executing the recruitment, application, and matriculation plan for all transfer students to UMR. 1.Spring 2014 Drop-In Hours for Psychology Advising
Psychology Undergraduate Advising has designated drop-in hours. While other units may have advisors available at all times, each advisor in our unit holds drop-in hours once a week and cannot address drop-in issues outside of these. While it may seem like a quick issue (such as signing a research contract), it often takes more time than expected and adds up when considering our large student population. To run efficiently and serve our students best, it is important that we recognize and respect these specified walk-in times. Due to high student demand, we will have an advisor available for 5 - 10 minute issues from 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday for the first two weeks of the term. Our normal drop-in hours will take effect after Monday, February 3rd. This semester's drop-in hours for the Psychology Advisors can be found on our website.

Applications to participate in the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2014 research internship program are now available online. This annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in cognitive science and developmental psychology, in close partnership with our full-time lab members. 9.DVBIC Research Intern
The research intern will assist research staff at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System for the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC). Responsibilities will include: preparing study materials, scoring clinical scales, working with testing software, verifying accuracy of study data, conducting computer-based cognitive testing, and assessing participants. This position will also involve working with relational databases and basic computer programming. The patient population will include military personnel or veterans with traumatic brain injury and other mental health issues. Qualified candidate must be highly motivated, able to work independently, extremely detail oriented, and willing to develop new skills as the need arises. Candidate must have excellent communication (written and oral), organizational and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills required; comfortable using basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and web applications. Some background with statistical software and relational databases. Minimum Experience: Pursuing a degree in psychology or related field. 10.NIDA Summer Research Opportunity
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) invites high school and undergraduate students to submit applications for the 2014 Summer Research Program. Under this program students underrepresented in the biomedical, social, clinical and behavioral sciences are paired with NIDA funded scientists at research institutions across the United States for 8-10 weeks during the summer to work in the field of substance abuse and addiction research. Internships may involve a variety of experiences including laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, patient interviews, and literature reviews. Student interns receive a stipend, and if necessary and eligible, provisions for travel and housing expenses. The deadline to submit applications for the 2014 program is February 14, 2014.
