2.Psychology Colloquium Hosts Dr. Kory Floyd - Interpersonal Relationships Research
The Department of Psychology Welcomes Dr. Kory Floyd as the second speaker in the Spring 2014 Colloquium Series. His presentation will explain the connection between interpersonal communication and the health of individuals and relationships. Dr. Floyd of Arizona State University has spent several years exploring how prosocial communication, such as the expression of affection, benefits physical and mental health and the stability of close relationships. He will describe how positive, intimate communication leads to personal and interpersonal wellness and how individuals can use this information to maximize well-being in their own lives and relationships. The presentation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 1:00-2:00pm in N639 Elliott Hall. Check it out!

3.Psychology Colloquium Hosts Dr. Patricia Frazier - Control Your Stress!
Next week Thursday, March 27th Dr. Patricia Frazier will be presenting as part of the Department of Psychology's Spring 2014 Colloquium Series. Dr. Frazier's talk will provide an overview of her translational program of research on the role of perceived control in coping with stressful life events from initial theoretical work to the recent development of an online intervention to increase perceived control. Much of the talk will focus on the online intervention, which as now been tested with more than 1,000 students and found to be effective in reducing perceived stress and the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Join us March 27th from 4:00-5:00pm in 402 Walter Library.

4.Internship Advice & A Pizza Slice - International Addition
Join CLA Career Services to learn more about how international students can be successful in their internships. This session will be held Friday, March 28th from 2:00-4:00pm in the President's Room (3rd Floor) of Coffman Memorial Union. 5.Learning Abroad Center - Targeting Your Resume and Cover Letter for Career Success
Sarah Newberg will be leading this session on Friday, March 28, 2:00-3:15 p.m. at the University International Center (UIC) 101. This workshop is part of the "Market Your International Experience Workshop Series," and is meant to help students integrate their international experiences into their career materials, and generally better articulate their experiences.

6.Second Women of Color Student Conference - March 29th
The 2nd Women of Color Student Conference entitled "Loving Each Other Harder: Womyn of Color, Community and the Intersections of Our Identities," will be held on March 29, 2014 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. As we seek to further fulfill our mission of advancing equity women across all identities, we must embrace the countless nuances within women's identities. It is through this framework that the 1st Women of Color Student Summit was born, and it is through this framework that we seek to dive even deeper with our 2nd Women of Color Student Conference. We are very excited to announce our keynote speaker, Wazina Zondon. Wazina, a social justice educator, writer and performer, is featured in the 2013 HBO documentary, "The Out List." Wazina has trained on issues related to holistic sexuality, and the crossroads of race, class, gender, faith. An Afghan, working-class queer, Wazina is committed to and inspired by self-determination and the power of people around the globe. Registration is REQUIRED and now open. 10.Research Assistant at the University of California San Diego
Gregory Aarons, Ph.D. of the University of California, San Diego Department of Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC) is currently seeking a research assistant to work on his research studies regarding implementation of evidence-based practice. The implementation of evidence-based practice into real-world human service settings is an important priority for improving the quality of services and outcomes for families. However, little is known about what factors facilitate or impede implementation, and how implementation of an evidence-based practice affects organizations and staff. Our lab investigates what it takes to effectively implement clinical practices in community-based settings. We focus on organization and policy factors that affect whether clinical interventions are used effectively with clients and patients. Our studies aim to identify and support the organizational factors that improve evidence-based practice implementation, including organizational culture, organizational climate, and leadership. Under supervision, the incumbent will work as a Research Assistant for the Child & Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC) in the UCSD Department of Psychiatry. The main duties and responsibilities can be found online. Candidates with any qualitative research experience are especially encouraged to apply. 14.AmeriCorps VISTA Position with Minneapolis Health Dept Youth Violence Prevention
The Minneapolis Health Department is recruiting for an AmeriCorps VISTA to support our youth violence prevention efforts. The VISTA will join our team to assist with development and implementation of a hospital-based intervention program for youth victims of violent assault injuries, coordination of training around youth violence prevention for medical professionals and community partners, and building community capacity. VISTA is a 12 month full-time commitment, and the term of service is June 2014-June 2015. VISTAs must have a college degree by the beginning of the service time, be US citizens, nationals, or legal residents, and pass a criminal background check. They cannot be employed in any other paid position while serving as a VISTA member. They will receive a bi-weekly living allowance, health coverage, and an education award of end-of-service stipend. 15.Mental Health Worker - Senior Lodge
Tasks unlimited, Inc. has an opening for a PT Mental Health Worker at our Senior Lodge (6 adult clients with serious and persistent mental illness), located in St. Louis Park. The position is approximately 14 hours per week - predominantly on the weekends to be present for the evening medication group. The position currently is 4-10pm on Sunday, every other Saturday from 4-9pm, and a few weekday evenings from 7-9pm, however hours may be negotiable. Because there are no case note requirements or relief coverage expectations, this pay range for this position is starting at or near $11.56 per hour. Prefer Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related field. Prefer at least one year experience with adults diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness, but not required. Successful candidates will be flexible in availability to work, possess positive and constructive communication skills both in writing and verbally, and have a desire to empower people who have been diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. 3.The Diversity Expo Was a Success!
Last week Wednesday, the Psychology Diversity Council hosted the very first Psychology Diversity Expo. We had over 50 students, and more than 10 organizations/offices in attendance - thank you for being among that number! Also, a big congratulations to Wanbing (Lisa) Zhang for winning the signed copy of The Science of Happily Ever After by Dr. Ty Tashiro. If you have any additional feedback about the council or our event, we would love to hear it! The Diversity Council is a relatively new entity of the Psychology Department, and we are still trying to figure out how we can be most helpful. Any feedback that you have can be submitted anonymously online. 6.Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work Career Panel
On Tuesday, March 18th, Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work (MPPAW) will host their 2nd Annual Career Panel. The event will be held at Solera Restaurant and Event Center (downtown, Minneapolis) from 5:00-6:00pm. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about careers in applied psychology. There will be five panelists representing a variety of educational tracks, career paths, and job types. They will share insights about choosing a career in applied psychology, finding a job in the field, and gaining critical experience during graduate training, as well as their favorite (and not so favorite) aspects of their career choices to date. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. After the panel, you are welcome to join MPPAW's monthly networking event (with appetizers 6:00pm-6:30pm) and program (6:30pm-7:45pm). The presentation is entitled: Leadership Essentials and other Practical Thoughts About Working in a Global Environment (Dr. Kyle Lundby). You must register online to attend.

7.HECUA Information Session
If you are interested in Social Justice Education, you might be interested in HECUA. Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12th, HECUA will be hosting an information session from 3:00-4:30pm in 326 Coffman Memorial Union. HECUA is a consortium of 17 liberal arts colleges, universities and associations dedicated to education for social justice. The U of M is a founding consortium member. Together we shape academically rigorous, off-campus study programs that address the most pressing issues in our neighborhoods, nations and world. HECUA programs explore social justice issues through academically rigorous, experiential, community-based programs. This info session will focus on these HECUA domestic programs, which include Art for Social Change, Environmental Sustainability, Inequality in America, Writing for Social Change, Making Media/Making Change, Agriculture & Justice, and Race in America Then and Now. Former participants will on hand to talk about their experience. Come when you can and stay as little or long as you like. Snacks will be provided. LASK 1101 is a 1-credit, mid-semester course that offers assistance over the 2nd half of the semester to students experiencing academic concerns. In LASK 1101, students receive weekly instruction and the opportunity to consult with students facing similar challenges. The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) research program at the University of Minnesota has an opening for a full-time psychometrist / research coordinator. The position is part of an NIH-funded, multi-site project that is utilizing neuroimaging, neuropsychology, genetics, and 3D craniofacial imaging in the study of FASD. 3.The Diversity Expo Was a Success!
Last week Wednesday, the Psychology Diversity Council hosted the very first Psychology Diversity Expo. We had over 50 students, and more than 10 organizations/offices in attendance - thank you for being among that number! Also, a big congratulations to Wanbing (Lisa) Zhang for winning the signed copy of The Science of Happily Ever After by Dr. Ty Tashiro. If you have any additional feedback about the council or our event, we would love to hear it! The Diversity Council is a relatively new entity of the Psychology Department, and we are still trying to figure out how we can be most helpful. Any feedback that you have can be submitted anonymously online. 5.Psychology Colloquium Hosts Dr. Kory Floyd - Interpersonal Relationships Research
The Department of Psychology Welcomes Dr. Kory Floyd as the second speaker in the Spring 2014 Colloquium Series. His presentation will explain the connection between interpersonal communication and the health of individuals and relationships. Dr. Floyd of Arizona State University has spent several years exploring how prosocial communication, such as the expression of affection, benefits physical and mental health and the stability of close relationships. He will describe how positive, intimate communication leads to personal and interpersonal wellness and how individuals can use this information to maximize well-being in their own lives and relationships. The presentation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 1:00-2:00pm in N639 Elliott Hall. Check it out!

6.Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work Career Panel
On Tuesday, March 18th, Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work (MPPAW) will host their 2nd Annual Career Panel. The event will be held at Solera Restaurant and Event Center (downtown, Minneapolis) from 5:00-6:00pm. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about careers in applied psychology. There will be five panelists representing a variety of educational tracks, career paths, and job types. They will share insights about choosing a career in applied psychology, finding a job in the field, and gaining critical experience during graduate training, as well as their favorite (and not so favorite) aspects of their career choices to date. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. After the panel, you are welcome to join MPPAW's monthly networking event (with appetizers 6:00pm-6:30pm) and program (6:30pm-7:45pm). If you are interested in Social Justice Education, you might be interested in HECUA. Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12th, HECUA will be hosting an information session from 3:00-4:30pm in 326 Coffman Memorial Union. HECUA is a consortium of 17 liberal arts colleges, universities and associations dedicated to education for social justice. The U of M is a founding consortium member. Together we shape academically rigorous, off-campus study programs that address the most pressing issues in our neighborhoods, nations and world. HECUA programs explore social justice issues through academically rigorous, experiential, community-based programs. This info session will focus on these HECUA domestic programs, which include Art for Social Change, Environmental Sustainability, Inequality in America, Writing for Social Change, Making Media/Making Change, Agriculture & Justice, and Race in America Then and Now. 8.2nd Women of Color Student Conference - March 29th
The 2nd Women of Color Student Conference entitled "Loving Each Other Harder: Womyn of Color, Community and the Intersections of Our Identities," will be held on March 29, 2014 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. As we seek to further fulfill our mission of advancing equity women across all identities, we must embrace the countless nuances within women's identities. It is through this framework that the 1st Women of Color Student Summit was born, and it is through this framework that we seek to dive even deeper with our 2nd Women of Color Student Conference. We are very excited to announce our keynote speaker, Wazina Zondon. Wazina, a social justice educator, writer and performer, is featured in the 2013 HBO documentary, "The Out List." Wazina has trained on issues related to holistic sexuality, and the crossroads of race, class, gender, faith. An Afghan, working-class queer, Wazina is committed to and inspired by self-determination and the power of people around the globe. Registration is REQUIRED and now open. Applications for the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2014 Research Internship Program are now available online. Our annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in cognitive science and developmental psychology in close partnership with our full-time lab members. The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) research program at the University of Minnesota has an opening for a full-time psychometrist / research coordinator. The position is part of an NIH-funded, multi-site project that is utilizing neuroimaging, neuropsychology, genetics, and 3D craniofacial imaging in the study of FASD. The psychometrist/coordinator will administer neurocognitive tests to children ages 5-7 and 10-16 in addition to collecting 3D facial images and DNA and assisting in the collection of brain MRI data. The position will also involve aspects of study coordination including assisting with participant recruitment, screening, diagnostic interviewing (training provided), scheduling, and data management. The Psychology Undergraduate Diversity Council is a student advisory group dedicated to engaging diverse perspectives and ensuring accessibility of services and programs within the psychology undergraduate program. The Diversity Council will be hosting the very first Psychology Diversity Expo tomorrow, March 5th. This event will feature programs and services that support students' academic success, engagement and goals. Students are welcome to come and go throughout the Expo. The University Student Legal Services, Mock Trial Association, CLA Career Services and the Pre-Law Society are proud to present the 16th Annual Careers in Law Forum. Participants include more than 50 exhibitors from a number of prominent government agencies, nonprofits, criminal justice organizations, several political offices, and a dozen law schools. Learn first hand about graduate school options, related volunteer and internship experiences, and professions in the local legal community. This event is not just for those considering law school- it features opportunities for a variety of academic disciplines in law-related fields. The event will be located in the Willey Hall Atrium from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 5th. Registration is not required!

College Possible is a growing nonprofit dedicated to helping low-income students get to and through college. We are powered by AmeriCorps and VISTA members who help high school students earn admission to college, support college students to graduation, and do indirect service in event planning, communications, fundraising, and human resources. Full-time AmeriCorps and VISTA positions with a 10 to 12 month commitment are available in the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Omaha and Portland beginning in fall 2014. Applications for the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2014 Research Internship Program are now available online. Our annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in cognitive science and developmental psychology in close partnership with our full-time lab members. Complete information about our research and internship program, as well as required application materials and an FAQ page, can be downloaded online. This year's internship will run from Mon, June 2 to Wed, July 30, 2014, and all applications should be received no later than Friday, March 7, 2014. We know you are busy with research papers and assignments right now, so take advantage of some resources and tools from the U Libraries. These free tools will help make the semester go smoothly. The Assignment Calculator: breaks down the research and writing steps for commons assignments like papers, speech, video, poster, etc. Students can personalize including changing dates and steps, They can sign up to get email reminders, too. Library Course Pages: There is a page for every course that gives students a great place to start their research with useful articles databases, tools, and videos customized to the course content including course reserves. Peer Research Consultants (PRCs): PRCs provide one-on-one assistance to students to help them develop the library and academic research strategies needed to find sources for an excellent research paper. They can give students an overview of using the libraries for research, formulating a paper topic and search, helping students to find scholarly articles, books, and more. PRCs have drop-in hours in Walter SMART or in MCAE in Appleby Hall or students can make an appointment. Check schedule online.

Kenwood Therapy Center is an innovative, 12-therapist clinic and training center in Minneapolis, MN. We currently have an opening in our volunteer program to assist in the front office as administrative support. Duties include scheduling clients, insurance benefit checks, and confidential phone intakes and referrals. Parts of this opportunity include the chance to speak to real people about real problems, and will provide context to further positions and graduate work. Experience, compassion, maturity, good judgment, and interest in working with clients with emotional, relational, sexual, and other serious life issues are important. This position is ideal for upperclassmen or individuals contemplating going on to graduate school in Psychology or Sociology, or other mental health fields; or someone interested in general work in a mental health clinic. We are looking for applicants that are able to commit for at least one year for approximately two four-hour shifts per week. We currently need volunteers during weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Administrative experience preferred. We are looking for someone to start ASAP. This position would work with a family who is receiving Applied Behavior Analysis services through the Lovaas Institute. They are looking for a PCA in Mendota Heights for our 8 year old boy who has Autism. He is energetic and playful. He loves music, swimming, cooking, animals, playing with our dogs, and being outside. The PCA will be responsible for assisting him with dressing, preparing lunch and snacks, and personal care. Additionally the PCA will work with him to complete home OT and ABA programming. We provide 24-hour mental health and chemical health services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. Some clients have co-occurring chemical health needs. The Psychology Undergraduate Diversity Council is a student advisory group dedicated to engaging diverse perspectives and ensuring accessibility of services and programs within the psychology undergraduate program. The Diversity Council will be hosting the very first Psychology Diversity Expo on Wednesday, March 5th. This event will feature programs and services that support students' academic success, engagement and goals. Students are welcome to come and go throughout the Expo. Speak with researchers in psychology labs, learn about summer research programs for multicultural and first generation students, become familiar with Career Services' resources, speak to Psychology grad program staff. 2.U OF M Job and Internship Fair
This Friday, February 21 from 10:00am - 4:00pm the University of Minnesota will host their annual Job & Internship Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Don't miss the biggest student career fair in Minnesota! More than 200 organizations will be there recruiting for hundreds of jobs and internships. Visit the event website to learn more, register, and get preparation tips. The Fair is open to all U of M undergraduates, graduate students, and recent alumni. Researchers at the Institute of Child Development are currently seeking motivated undergraduate students who are interesting in participating in developmental psychopathology research. Our project may be of particular interest for those pursuing research experiences in clinical or developmental psychology, with emphasis on caregiver-child relations, social-emotion and language development. Students who are native English speakers and can commit to 6 to 10 hours a week with a minimum of 2 semesters are preferred. Lab duties include transcribing videos, coding linguistic and affective data, and data entry. Opportunities to be involved in professional presentations may be offered pending on the commitment of the student. Our project is flexible to the schedule of interested undergraduates and hours accrued this semester can be rolled over toward the next. We currently have an opening in our volunteer program to assist in the front office as administrative support. 19.Full-time Position with YouthLink
YouthLink is an agency that provides a continuum of services focused on youth in crisis and/or who are homeless, precariously housed, marginalized and at risk of homelessness. They currently have an opening for a Full Time Housing Case Manager. The Housing Case Manager provides a minimum of 20 hours of direct service to homeless youth with the goal of supporting their transition to adulthood. The housing case manager's goal is to provide "life coaching" that results in a youth being empowered, connected, self-sufficient and independent in identified areas.Through the vehicles of positive relationship building and managing transitions, the housing case manager helps youth identify and achieve goals to help them maintain safe, stable housing, employment and education. A Bachelor's degree and/or one to two years of experience working with youth (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required.
