1.WE'RE MOVING!
Psychology Undergraduate Advising is excited to announce that we are moving office locations! We will still be located on the first floor of Elliott Hall, now in the north-end wing. This new area will offer some extra undergraduate student space, and has a main office/reception desk located in N108 Elliott Hall. The move is taking place this week, so please be aware of our limited availability during this time. We look forward to seeing you in the north-end!

2.Decide Which Health Career May Be Right for You! AHS 1102: Orientation to Health Careers
Are you thinking about a health career but don't know exactly which one you want to pursue? This web-based, one credit course is for undergraduate students who are exploring health majors and professions. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their own values, skills and interests. You will learn more about the academic and experiential requirements for health professional schools at the University. Activities will include interest inventories, discussion, journaling, developing an action plan, and other reflective assignments. This course will help you decide if a career in the health professions is a good fit for you! Register using the online registration system.
3.Thinking About UROP? Want to get involved in Research? Take EDHE 1620!
EDHE 1620 Current Topics: Strategies for Student Success - Writing a Research Proposal from "A" to "IRB" provides the tools and support that you need to write a research proposal for a wide variety of audiences. No matter what kind of research you are interested in pursuing, you will complete this course with a research proposal in hand! You can also look forward to learning a little bit about epistemology and methods along the way, while discovering the researcher within you. This is a 1 credit course, and can be found in the registration system. It will not count toward Psychology major requirements but can be a great supplement to your major!

4.Returning From Abroad? Minnesota Study Abroad Returnee Conference
Saturday, September 22nd
Already missing your abroad experience? Plan to attend the Minnesota Study Abroad Returnee Conference and learn what to do with the meaningful experience you just had. Concurrent sessions will include: Go Abroad Again: Teaching and Short-term Work; Digging Deeper: Stories and Identity; International Careers at Home and Abroad; Graduate School at Home and Abroad; Get Engaged: Local and International Volunteer Opportunities. Share your experiences by participating in the poster competition or photo contest! Registration is open now through September 15th. 5.Thinking about a career in a health profession? Health Careers Fair 2012
Thursday, September 27; 1:00 - 4:00pm
Coffman Great Hall
Come to the fair and learn about the many different academic programs leading to a health professional career. Meet with admissions staff from the different health professional and health-related programs here on campus (and outside the U!) and ask them your questions. Pre-health student groups will also be in attendance. Many University of Minnesota health related programs will be in attendance this year, as they are every year. We have also invited health professional degree programs that are not available at the U of MN (Physicians Assistant, Podiatry, Optometry, etc). 6.Fall UGRAs Needed for Measurement Research on Vocational/Counseling Psychology--For Credit
The Center for Interest Measurement Research (CIMR) is seeking undergraduate research assistants for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013. Commitment to this lab position includes registering for 3 credits of PSY 5993, Research Lab in Psychology during Fall semester 2012, which requires 9 hours per week of lab work. Applicants should have basic knowledge of statistics and research methods (i.e., some introductory coursework), and familiarity with SPSS is strongly preferred. Duties will include attending weekly lab meetings, assisting with research participant recruitment, data collection, data entry, etc. The CIMR will have ongoing projects that span the coming academic year, so the ability to commit to both Fall and Spring semesters is preferred, although not required. If you are an undergraduate majoring in Psychology, and have an interest in career decision-making, vocational psychology, counseling psychology, and/or psychological measurement, contact Jacob Paulsen at paul0569@umn.edu for more information.

7.Research Internship in Obesity Prevention Starting Fall 2012
This fall the OPC will be sponsoring a new initiative to reach out to undergraduate students who
are interested in obesity prevention. Two new opportunities are available: 1. One supervised, two-semester research experience plus a $2,000 grant for research costs is available. The research project will be student initiated and will address some topic related to obesity prevention. 2. Two supervised, unpaid internships are also available for the two-semester period. The internships focus on obesity prevention policy and environment at the University of Minnesota. Details about how to apply are available here. VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

8.Gain Experience in the Field of Human Services or Mental Health at Tubman!
Tubman is currently recruiting students for internship and volunteer opportunities starting at the end of August. Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programming, elder care resources and community education to the Twin Cities metro community. Examples of opportunities for student involvment include being a Youth Advocate or Community Advocate. Youth Advocates are responsible for creating a fun environment through activities and care for children and youth who have experienced family violence. Community Advocates provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, resources and referrals to individuals who call or walk into Tubman sites. Training for fall positions starts on August 25th, so students need to contact Tubman as soon as possible. A full training schedule and the application can be found at www.tubman.org . 9.Provide Supportive Counseling to Victims of Rape & Sexual Abuse
The Rape and Sexual Abuse Center offers undergraduate internships for students in human services. Other volunteer opportunities are also available. Interns provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention to survivors of sexual violence and concerned persons. Training begins Sep. 4th. Call Amanda at 612-746-8530.

10.Apply to Volunteer for MN Brain Injury Alliance's Traumatic Brain Injury Family Retreat!
The Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance is looking for motivated, caring, and responsible volunteers to assist in the 8th Annual Traumatic Brian Injury Family (TBI) Weekend Retreat on Saturday, October 6th. The retreat will be held at Camp Courage near Maple Lake, MN and is for children with traumatic brain injury and their families. Volunteers will be paired with a young camper and accompany them in activities throughout the day, from 8:00am - 5:30pm. This is a great opportunity to enhance the quality of life and bring the promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. At Dependable Home Health Care, we are seeking an organized and experienced Lead Direct Care Counselor join the team at our group home in White Bear Lake/Maplewood. The Lead Direct Care Counselor is to work directly with persons served in the implementation of the written Individual Support Plans, documenting progress and response to program services, and ensuring the safety and well-being of each person. In addition the Lead Direct Support Professional will directly coordinate and deliver supportive services for 2-4 individuals with disabilities living in their home. This individual generally works without direct immediate supervision in the performance of assigned tasks. Acts as the first point of contact and provides staffing coverage when the Designated Coordinator is unavailable. Ideal candidates would have at least two years experience working in this field.
