This is an opportunity for you to talk to a professional in the field in an intimate and informal setting. Enjoy a free lunch of Mesa pizza while you learn what you can be doing now to pursue a career as a mental health therapist, and what it takes to open your own practice. Suzanne Morgan, MSW, LICSW, Psychotherapist in private practice, specializes in eating disorders, GLBTQ identity issues, women's issues, and couples therapy. As fall semester is now in full swing, this time of year can also be a time of transition, increasing demand, and heightened stress. It can sometimes be difficult to find the right balance. In addition to friends and family, we want to make sure that you know that the University has a number of resources available to help students through tough times. If you go to the Student Mental Health Website you will find information about the various University of Minnesota mental health resources available to students. These resources may be of assistance to you, as well as friends who may be experiencing emotions and/or displaying behavior that concerns you.

4.Psychology Alumnae Speaks as Part of Women and Business
On October 31 from 12pm - 1 pm Sandra Davis, an alumnae of the University of Minnesota Counseling Psychology program, will be speaking to the U of M Entrepreneur Club as part of the "Women in Business" series. Dr. Sandra Davis is the chief executive officer and founder of Minneapolis-based MDA Leadership Consulting. As CEO of the firm, she is widely known and respected as an executive coach and thought leader in the industry. Her clients include top corporations headquartered in the Midwest and beyond. 5.U of M Pre-Law Society Hosts an LSAT Strategy Session TODAY
The U of M Pre-Law Society will be hosting an LSAT Strategy Session in 330 STSS TODAY, October 22nd, at 5:30pm with their partners from Kaplan Test Prep! There, a real Kaplan instructor will be providing all the necessary information about LSAT logistics, test prep options, and the all-important strategies for taking the LSAT. Finally, one free Kaplan course will be given away in a drawing! 6.Future Legal Professionals Networking Event
Please join the U of M's University Student Legal Service, Mock Trial Association, and Pre-Law Society at the Future Legal Professionals networking event on October 24th. The event will take place at 5:30 P.M. in Coffman Memorial Union's Campus Club Lounge Corridor and Terrace. It will host a number of legal professionals from different areas of practice. A business casual dress code, at minimum, is recommended. A light dinner and beverages will be served. Please RSVP at: z.umn.edu/uslsflp.

7.Government and Nonprofit Career Fair
On Monday, October 28th from 10am to 3pm in the Great Hall of Coffman Memorial Union there will be a Government and Nonprofit Career Fair. Stop by this annual event to visit with federal/state/county/municipal government entities as well as non-profit organizations to explore both internship and full-time opportunities. No pre-registration required - open to all students and alumni. Bring your U Card and copies of your resume!

8.DirecTrack to Teaching Information Session
Get on the path to teaching licensure as an undergraduate through DirecTrack to Teaching. The program offers early admission to the College of Education and Human Development's initial licensure program and gives undergraduates early exposure to the culture of teaching and schools. For students interested in applying to the Fall 2014 DirecTrack to Teaching program, there will be an information session Friday, November 1st from 1:30pm-3:30pm in 355 Peik Hall. At this event, students can find out more information about DirecTrack to Teaching, meet current DirecTrack students, get questions answered about the program and get help with the application. 9.Want to Teach Social Studies? Attend this Teacher Licensure Info Session
If you have ever thought of teaching social studies at the secondary level, now is your chance to find out what it takes to apply and be admitted into the U of M's Teacher Licensure program. On Wednesday, October 23rd at 12 noon, Jaimie Gearhart (from the College of Education and Human Development) will be in 1210 Heller Hall to present information and answer all of your questions. If you are completely lost as to a post-BA career you might want to check into teaching. 10.Aurora Center Hosts Event for Domestic Violence Awareness Event
The Aurora Center for Advocacy & Education invites you to Shattered Glass. Demonstrating the healing power of the arts through spoken word, dramatization, live music and art, Shattered Glass is the story of a woman who disentangles herself from a toxic relationship in order to rediscover, in her words, "the smile of that girl in those pictures they say is me." Shattered Glass is part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) activities and events being hosted by TAC during the month of October. The event will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd from 7:00pm-8:30pm in the Whole Music Club in Coffman Union. Refreshments will be provided. 11.Start the Semester Off On the Wrong Foot? LASK 1101 Can Help
If you're having some difficulties this semester, LASK 1101 might be a great B-term course for you. LASK 1101 is a 1-credit, mid-semester course that offers assistance over the 2nd half of the semester to students experiencing academic concerns. In LASK 1101, students receive weekly instruction and the opportunity to consult with students facing similar challenges. This course requires instructor permission to register, and registration closes tomorrow, October 23rd, so interested students should contact the SASS front desk at (612) 624-3323 for a brief phone screening and registration information.

12.Paid Summer Research - Apply for the McNair Scholars Program
The goal of McNair Scholars is to give undergraduate students intensive, faculty-driven research experiences and prepare students for entry into graduate school. This is a 10-week summer research program where students will conduct research with a professor. Often times, students form great relationships with the professors who are then able to write them strong letters of recommendation for graduate school and help them with the grad school application process. Students present their research at a poster sessions held on campus, and receive a $3,000 stipend for their work. The U of M Ronald E. McNair Post baccalaureate Achievement Program is now accepting applications for summer 2014. The priority application deadline is January 27, 2014. In order to apply, students must meet the following criteria: first generation college student and low income, or from an underrepresented group, have a GPA of 2.75 and above, be a full-time sophomore or junior and be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. Students with a STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) focus are strongly encouraged to apply. Check out the McNair website for more information, and encourage interested students to sign up to attend an Open House. 14.Part Time Relief Shift Worker at Division of Indian Work
The Shift Worker will provide on call services for adolescent Boys and Girls residing in our facilities with a shift model, including weekdays, weekends, late nights, and awake overnights. Some of the Shift Worker's tasks will include: provide supervision and safety to youth, assist with case management, document information and daily reports, and communicate with youth and other program staff. The Division of Indian Work provides culturally based support systems to American Indian youth and families, encouraging educational, psychological, social and spiritual growth in a multi-cultural urban environment.
