1.Drop-In Hours for Psychology Undergraduate Advising
Psychology Undergraduate Advising has designated drop-in hours during the academic year. During the first two weeks of the term, we have been taking drop-ins all day, but normal drop-in hours take effect this week (week of September 15th). While other units may have advisors available at all times, each advisor in our unit holds drop-in hours once a week and cannot address walk-in issues outside of these. While it may seem like a quick issue (such as signing a research contract), it often takes more time than expected and adds up when considering our large student population. To run efficiently and serve our students best, it is important that we recognize and respect these specified drop-in times.

3.Community Involvement Fair - Today!
You can make a difference! Come find out how at the Community Involvement Fair on Tuesday, September 16th from 10a.m. to 2p.m. in the Great Hall (Coffman Memorial Union). This free event gives students (grad and undergrad) a chance to learn about Twin Cities volunteer and internship opportunities. Talk to representatives from more than 90 local organizations to find a position that matches your major or interests. Learn about volunteer and internship positions in fields such as: Youth Education and Mentoring, ELL/ESL Tutoring, Environment, Animal Rights, Healthcare / Public Health, Law / Criminal Justice, Housing / Homelessness, Refugee and Immigrant Communities, Political Organizing / Public Policy, Family Services / Family Violence, the Arts, GLBT Communities, Women and Gender issues.

4.Learning Abroad Fall Fair - Tomorrow!
The Learning Abroad Center is hosting a Learning Abroad Fair on Wednesday, September 17th (10:00am-2:30pm) in the West Bank Plaza. The Learning Abroad Fair is designed for students to discover the variety of learning abroad options available at the University of Minnesota. Students will have the opportunity to meet with: Learning Abroad Center staff, Affiliated program staff, College advisers, Career counselors, and many other departments from around the U that help with the decisions and steps needed to participate in an education abroad experience. 5.CLA Internship Fair
The CLA Internship Fair will be held next Friday, September 26th from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Great Hall (Coffman Memorial Union). Attend this event to explore internship opportunities with a variety of employers who have internships and want to hire CLA students. Starting dates for these opportunities may include fall 2014 and spring or summer 2015. This event is open to all CLA students and recent alumni (alumni within one year of graduation). For more information and a detailed list of employers attending search the 'Career Fairs/Events' section on GoldPASS. (Prep Workshops will be held Friday, September 19, 12:00 - 1:00pm and Tuesday, September 23, 3:00 - 4:00pm. At the Prep Workshops, CLA Career Services staff will tell you about the employers attending and how to conduct research on those organizations and their available opportunities. Tips include how to dress, what to bring with you to the Fair, and how to quickly make a good impression.) Registration on GoldPASS is encouraged.

6.Peace Corps Information Session
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 17th at 6 p.m. there will be a Peace Corps Information Session in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, Room 289. At the info session, you will hear Returned Peace Corps Volunteers talk about their service and get tips for applying.

7.First Active Minds Meeting
Active Minds is a student-run mental health advocacy group devoted to educating students about mental health issues and reducing the stigma of mental illness. Tomorrow, Wednesday September 17th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm Active Minds will host their first meeting in Coffman 213. We will have FREE PIZZA! Come join us to learn about the group and talk about our exciting plans for the upcoming semester. All are welcome! 9.The 2014 LGBTQIA Student Leadership Retreat
The University of Minnesota LGBTQIA Leadership Retreat is an annual retreat hosted in the fall for undergraduate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/ally students at the University of MN Twin Cities. The retreat is sponsored by the GLBTA Programs Office and the Queer Student Cultural Center. The purpose of the retreat is to focus on leadership development and community building while exploring intersecting identities and oppressions through a social justice lens. It is also a great way for students to make new friends and meet new people! The retreat will take place in Coffman Union on Saturday Oct. 4th, 9am-8pm and Sunday Oct. 5th, 9am-4pm. Meals will be provided and the retreat is free for U of M undergraduate participants. Space is limited. Please fill out the application by Thursday, September 18th.

Many employers conduct interviews on campus for full-time and internship positions. Each semester CLA Career Services hosts local and national companies, both for-profit and non-profit, of all sizes. Check often as new schedules are added regularly! Some of the interviews happening in the month of September are with: Analysis Group, United Health Group, Kohl's Department Stores, Target Corporation, Insight Global, KPMG, Securian Financial, Ameriprise Financial, General Mills, and more! 7.Child Psychology Research Opportunity
Undergraduate research assistants needed in the Relationships Research Lab. We are beginning two large research projects investigating (1) how young children understand relationships; (2) the neural processing of relationship information by young adult couples. Major responsibilities will include transcription and data entry. Additional opportunities to gain research experience will be available, including opportunities to attend regular lab meetings and discuss ongoing and future research questions. 11.Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (Zelazo Lab)
Researchers at the Institute of Child Development are currently seeking motivated undergraduate students who are interesting in obtaining hands-on research experience. Our project may be of particular interest for those pursuing research experiences in social and cognitive psychology. Students who can commit to 6 to 10 hours a week with a minimum of 2 semesters are preferred. Lab duties include assisting in recruitment, ERP/behavioral data collection, and data entry and analysis. We prefer students who can help collect data on weekends. Opportunities to be involved in professional presentations may be offered pending on the commitment of the student. 12.Think About Applying for a UROP Research Grant
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides grants of up to $1,700 for undergraduates either to work with a faculty member on her/his scholarly or creative project or to carry out a project of the student's own design in close collaboration with a faculty sponsor. UROP projects are an ideal way to bring together the University's research and teaching missions, and the program is well funded, providing over 100 grants for CLA students every year. Electronic applications can be submitted at urop.umn.edu. The due date for UROP applications for spring 2015 projects is October 6, 2014.

13.CLA Business Club - First Meeting Today
Interested in learning more about the CLA Business Club? Come to our first event of the semester TODAY! (September 16th!) The event will be at 6:30 pm at Akerman Hall in Room 209. We'll be talking about how to get more involved with the club, the events we have coming up during fall semester, and the club leadership elections coming up later this month. It will be a great opportunity to network with other CLA students interested in business careers, and CLA Alum who are leaders in their fields. Contact clabclub@umn.edu with questions or concerns. 18.Positions with ACR Healthcare
ACR is currently in need of employees for a direct care position titled "Program Counselor," which involves working with individuals that have physical/developmental disabilities. Some roles of a Program Counselor include escorting residents to appointments, which could be for an annual check-up, physical therapy, occupational therapy, art therapy, and other possibilities. Other general roles of a PC include administering medications, providing care for daily activities, preparing meals, and also taking residents on community outings such as movies, concerts, parks, and anything else that interests them. Since there are over 50 houses within ACR, there are some homes that have more medical-based residential care, and others that are more behavioral. The position does require training before being permitted to work at any home, which covers first-aid, CPR, medication administration, how to handle behaviors, and other classes depending on the assigned home. Training can take up to two weeks, but the good news is that all training is paid! ACR Healthcare does require a minimum of 12 hours a week (around two shifts), and we prefer staff to commit for at least 6 months. ACR Healthcare was voted #1 workplace in Minnesota for 2014, and it is a great company to be involved with. We also have an internship program for any employee planning to pursue nursing, pharmacy, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other health-based careers. 19.Tutoring Positions at Edina Learning Center
Lindamood-Bell is an organization dedicated to enhancing human learning. We provide intensive instruction in the underlying skills needed for proficiency in reading, spelling, comprehension, critical thinking, and math. Our instruction helps a wide range of individuals, pre-kindergarten through adult, by developing language processing that is critical to becoming a proficient learner in any subject. Our Edina Learning Center is looking for energetic, positive individuals to work as Clinicians (Tutors). These positions are seasonal. Paid 7-10 day training in our research validated programs is provided. Ideal candidates will have a background in the education field and a passion for helping others.
