1.PSYCH SCOOP SUMMER EDITIONS
During the summer term, you will begin to receive the Psych Scoop on a bi-weekly rather than weekly basis. The regular schedule will commence as fall term approaches. The summer issues still contain important information and wonderful opportunities, so be sure to check your inbox!

2.PSYCHOLOGY ADVISING AVAILABILITY FOR SUMMER 2012
Psychology Undergraduate Advising will begin its summer availability this Monday, May 14th. We do not hold walk-in hours during summer session, as advisor availability fluctuates. However, we are available to meet with students through appointments. If you would like to meet with an advisor, please submit an Appointment Request Form. Our office remains open during our usual operating hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. We will still be checking and responding to emails frequently, so feel free to contact us with your questions at psyadvis@umn.edu.

3.INTERESTED IN INDUSTRIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCH? MEETING TONIGHT!
Check out the final meeting of the year of the Minnesota Professionals for Psychology Applied to Work (MPPAW) on Tuesday, May 15th. Register for 2012-13 MPPAW membership and attend this meeting for free! Lisa Stevens from PDI Ninth House will be presenting on succession planning. Lisa leads a cross-disciplinary team to develop and integrate cutting edge thinking and tools that help client organizations improve or transform their talent management systems/processes, including succession management, performance management, development, staffing, and rewards. The meeting will be held at Solera in downtown Minneapolis. It begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, followed by the presentation, which begins at 6:20 p.m. and concludes by 7:45 p.m. For more information about membership, upcoming events, and job postings, check out the MPPAW website.

4.YOU'VE GRADUATED, WHAT NOW? JOB SEARCH SEMINAR!

This intensive seminar will equip you to search for a job in a recovering economy. Get the scoop on how to conduct a creative job search, craft an outstanding resume and interview effectively. Gain LinkedIn knowledge and networking tips from Judy Zimmer, an engaging and candid effectiveness coach. Plus - practice networking with actual employers! This is a special event for all U of M, Twin Cities seniors and recent grads who are serious about their job search. (You can attend if your graduation date is between December 2011 and August 2012). $10 to participate and lunch is included. RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

5.UGRA NEEDED IN PERSONALITY LAB- START SUMMER & CONTINUE FALL/SPRING
Professor Colin DeYoung's research lab is seeking an Undergraduate Research Assistant (UGRA) beginning this summer and continuing into the Fall and Spring Semesters. The UGRA will be involved with research projects in the area of Personality Psychology. Duties and activities may include but are not limited to: recruiting participants, running participants in research studies, data management and analysis, and active participation in lab meetings. UGRAs are expected to commit to an average of 9 hours of work per week, attend lab meetings, work independently on assigned tasks, and take initiative in communicating with members of the research lab. UGRAs will be required to register for 3 credits of PSY 5993 Directed Research in the Fall and Spring Semesters. Additionally, UGRAs will be required to write an APA-style research paper due at the end of each semester (or other writing project, as appropriate). Eligible candidates are motivated psychology students currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota, have at least a 3.25 GPA, and must have taken or be concurrently enrolled in the following courses as prerequisites: PSY 1001 and PSY 3001W (preferably also PSY 3101, but this is negotiable). Exceptional candidates will have experience in conducting psychological research, SPSS, MediaLab, and E-Prime. Please contact Matt Paffel by July 15th (paff0014@umn.edu) if interested.

LEARNING ABROAD

6.WANT TO CONDUCT RESEARCH OR STUDY PSY ABROAD? STUDY IN IRELAND!
If you are looking for a study abroad program that allows you to continue exploring the field of Psychology in a university setting, this may be the program for you! Study at the University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland, an Arcadia program affiliated with the University of Minnesota and the Learning Abroad Center. Students on this program are able to select from a wide array of Psychology courses that may be evaluated for usability within the major*. UCD's School of Psychology also provides students an opportunity to conduct their own research (see past projects here).
