1.Undergraduate Internship Coordinator Position in Psychology
Psychology Advising is seeking an undergraduate psychology student for our newly developed Internship Coordinator internship opportunity. The intern will investigate fieldwork opportunities and resources (both on and off campus) in psychology; work under an advisor in Psychology, and with the entire advising staff, to investigate possible internship opportunities; help design curriculum for a possible online internship course; assist in setting up protocol for a possible internship program; and write a manual for Psychology Advising. 2.PSY 3960: Stress & Trauma - 3 credits
This new course is an introduction to the psychological aspects of stress and trauma. Students will gain understanding of the major theories and research findings related to stress and trauma, including the effects of stress and trauma on mental and physical health, factors related to more effective coping with stress/trauma (e.g., social support). and interventions designed to decrease the negative effects of stress and trauma (e.g., stress management training). Students will practice analyzing and critiquing the scientific methods used to study these topics and will have the opportunity to apply stress and trauma research to their own lives through reflection and personal application assignments. 3.Basic fMRI Design and Analysis Using SPM Workshop
Basic fMRI Design and Analysis Using SPM is a 5-day workshop designed for investigators having familiarity with the fundamental principles of fMRI measurement and design, with some experience in functional neuroimaging data acquisition and analysis. The strongly interactive workshop will focus on using SPM12 and its extensions for preprocessing, statistical modeling and visualization of data associated with a range of basic and clinical fMRI experimental designs. The fundamentals of analyzing both task-related and resting state data will be covered. While the primary emphasis will involve using the core SPM12 programs for these purposes, there will also be extensive discussion of a variety of software tools that extend the power of SPM12. Some of these tools facilitate fMRI quality assurance through artifact detection and mitigation at various analysis stages. Other tools support a variety of data visualization methods, including MRIcron, xjView, FSLview, and FreeSurfer. This course is appropriate for investigators who have had some experience with previous versions of SPM.) 4.Wanted: Paid Research Assistant
Native, fluent speaker of Spanish needed to help with data collection in a language development study in Maria Sera's Language and Cognitive Development Lab for fall and possibly spring semester(s). Psychology, Child Psychology, or Education majors who have experience working with children, and have taken statistics and research methods preferred. Primary duty will involve testing children and adults in a word-learning task for approximately 10 hours per week. 5.Part Time Research Assistant Position with Law Professor
Law Professor Francis Shen is looking to hire a part-time research assistant for several empirical legal research projects related to psychology, neuroscience, and law. The position will run for the duration of the summer and then into the 2014-15 academic year. This position is for either an undergraduate or graduate student. Alumni and recent graduates who will not be enrolled at UMN in Fall 2014 are not eligible to apply. No previous exposure to law or legal research is required for this position, but preference will be given to applicants who have experience with psychology research. It is estimated that during the summer, this will require 10-15 hours per week, and during the school year between 5-10 hours per week. The hourly compensation will be the standard departmental hourly rate. 6.Submit an Article to JIRIRI
The Journal of Interpersonal Relations, Intergroup Relations and Identity (JIRIRI) is an international scientific psychology journal published annually with the goal of promoting creative and original ideas relating to identity, interpersonal relations and intergroup relations. The JIRIRI offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to experience the complete process of publication through a peer review system. Undergraduate students from any university are invited to submit their articles in French or English. Articles can have been co-written with a professor or a graduate student, but the undergraduate student must be the first author. No prior experience of publication is necessary for the submission of an article. Indeed, the JIRIRI team provides guidance and support to the authors throughout the publication process in order to help them reach scientific standards. The peer review system for volume 8 of the JIRIRI (Winter 2015) will start the review process as soon as the article is submitted. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the review process, we suggest the articles be submitted before August 15th, 2014. Any undergrad or graduate students wishing to participate in the review process or submit an article can do so by contacting the Editor in Chief, Jérémie Dupuis. 7.CAPE and The Major Network Looking for Major Mentors
The Center for Academic Planning and Exploration (CAPE) provides personalized services to help undergraduate students like you develop an Action Plan to aid in your major and career decision-making process. The Major Network is a University of Minnesota cross-college network that connects upper-level students who are passionate about their majors, with students who are exploring different major options. Exploring students are paired with an upper-level mentor in a low-key and time-commitment-friendly environment where students can receive a firsthand look at what it is like to be a student in a particular major. Exploring Students and Mentors collaborate to ask questions and share information about their major(s) of interest in a variety of ways. Upper-level Mentors are students who have been identified as excellent peer resources in particular areas of study. Mentors should be passionate about their major and need to have completed a significant amount of upper-division coursework within their particular major. EPSY 5401(Counseling Procedures) is designed as an introduction to counseling. Students will learn about the types of issues that clients bring to counseling, counseling and interpersonal skills that can be used with clients and in students' own lives, case studies, role playing, and demonstrations will be used. Multicultural counseling topics will be covered. For individuals who are interested in exploring the field of counseling and for individuals whose professional work may include counseling and interviewing. 9. MN Population Center Admin Core is Hiring
The MN Population Center Admin Core is currently conducting a search for 3-4 undergraduate office assistants to join our front desk student team. This is an immediate opening but we would like to find individuals who would be able to work during the academic year as well. We're looking for someone who is hard working, has good attention to detail, and has great customer service skills. In this role, you will function as part of a reception and administrative support team and provide service to staff and visitors to the Center. 11.TRIO Upward Bound College Access Advisor & Residential Coordinator
The Student Services unit at the College of Education and Human Development is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for a College Access Advisor & Residential Coordinator to assist in the execution of our long-standing federal grant program -- TRIO Upward Bound (TRIO UB). TRIO Upward Bound is a college preparatory program for low-income and educationally disadvantaged high school students. TRIO UB works with students, parents, schools and communities, on a long-term and intensive basis to help generate both individual and systemic change. Services are designed to help participants build the skills needed to succeed in postsecondary education. This position is responsible for academic advising and student caseload management to achieve student development in all facets including academic, personal, social, and cultural. Includes program operation including developing, implementing and managing program initiatives, projects and events. Also includes serving as an instructor in post-secondary education, the Residential Coordinator, and the school and community liaison. 12.EMPaCT Program is Hiring a Community Health Coordinator - Patient Navigator
Navigators are "natural helpers" who will provide information and support to racial/ethnic minority patients to ensure they have equal access to clinical trials. Navigators help patients move through the healthcare system and help them overcome barriers to enrollment, treatment protocols, and continued participation in clinical trials. Navigators provide general information about how clinical trials are conducted, patient rights and protections, and work with research staff to ensure patients concerns are addressed. Navigators then link patients to institutional services, community resources, and provide support to enhance enrollment and retention of patients in clinical trials. 13.Fall Internship Opportunity with Congressman Ellison
Congressman Keith Ellison is looking for the next group of smart, hardworking, and dedicated students for a fall internship opportunity in his Minneapolis office.
