Psychology Advising

1. Research in Psychology Week Starts Tomorrow! 
Psychology Undergraduate Advising is excited to present Research in Psychology Week! This 3-day event will expose psychology students to the variety of research opportunities within the psychology department, as well as help students understand what to expect and how to prepare for completing research for credit through PSY 4/5993: Directed Research. Stop by the Research in Psychology Fair anytime during the times listed below, and attend the Research in Psychology panel to learn more about the process for getting involved in research!
RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY FAIR: Wednesday, March 30th and Thursday, March 31st, 12:30-2:00pm, Elliott Hall 1st floor lobby. Stop by anytime!
Representatives from Psychology research labs, UROP, and Psychology Advising will be available to give information and answer questions about research in psychology.
RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY PANEL: Friday, April 1st, 1:00-2:00pm, N219 Elliott Hall
Learn about Psychology research experience from Undergraduate Research Assistants, Psychology lab supervisors, and faculty members! *Please RSVP to psyadvis@umn.edu, subject: "Psychology Panel" to reserve your spot. This panel will also be videotaped and available for later viewing.

2. Mental Health on Campus Panel
Come join us on Monday, April 4th from 5:30-6:30 in Elliott Hall, room N647 for Mental Health on Campus Panel. This will be an open conversation about mental health on campus as well as awareness with representatives from both Active Minds and Campus De-stress. Cookies and tea will be provided! We hope to see you there!
3. Psi Chi Membership Fee Due Friday, April 8th 
For newly admitted members of Psi Chi, the membership fee of $65 is due on Friday, April 8th by 5:00pm. This fee needs to be paid by check and written out to Psi Chi. Submit this check outside of Psychology Advising (N108) by this time. If you have any questions, please contact Psi Chi at psichi@umn.edu

4. We’d Love to Hear from YOU - PISA Service Survey
The Mission of PISA is to both support international students within Psychology, as well as to educate American students regarding international student issues within Psychology. In this survey (which takes no longer than 5 minutes), we want you to give us some feedback on how PISA is doing! We will ask you for your opinions on some of the events we had, the things we've done, and whether they've met your expectations. It is designed solely for YOU to give us feedback on any thing and everything, so that we can be at better service to you in the future! 5. Secrets from CLA Alumni: How to Network 
Friday, April 8th, 3:00-4:30pm; The Beacon Room, University Recreation & Wellness Center
Sign up through the "Career Fairs/Events" section on GoldPASS (event ID: 2916) 
CLA students and recent graduates (May 2014 or after) are invited to connect with more than 20 CLA alumni to learn how to effectively network. Students are constantly told to “network, network, network!” For some, networking comes naturally. For others, it is hard to know where to begin. During this event, students and alumni will have the opportunity to learn how to network and practice! The event will answer questions such as, “How do I first engage an individual?”, “What is the proper etiquette surrounding food and drinks at a networking event?”, and “How do I exit a conversation?”. The last half hour of the event will be an open networking period for students and alumni to put their newly acquired networking advice into practice. Refreshments will be provided by French Meadow Bakery Café. All registered guests will receive a professional padfolio.
6. CLA Practice Interview Day

Sign up for a 45-minute practice interview with a professional recruiter from one of these areas: Business, Sales, and Communications; Human Services, Government and Education; or Science, Technology, Math and Healthcare. This is a great opportunity to receive helpful feedback on your interviewing skills. Professional recruiters from a variety of organizations volunteer to conduct the interviews. IMPORTANT: Not all research opportunities listed below are affiliated with the Department of Psychology. If you are receiving credit for a research experience outside the Psychology Department, you will need to check with Psychology Advising about how it will fit into your academic program. 
8. Summer Research Assistants Needed in Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (DSCN) 
The Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (DSCN) is seeking undergraduate research assistants for the summer of 2016. Research assistants will contribute to a large ongoing project investigating relations among learning, brain development, and cognitive development in children 5 to 10 years of age. This position is especially ideal for students who would like to acquire experience collecting, processing, and interpreting data in the context of developmental psychology or developmental cognitive neuroscience. Students must commit to 6 to 9 hours a week, be available during the evenings with some weekend availability. Opportunities to continue in the fall may be available. 10. Summer & Fall Internship Opportunities at Washburn Center for Children
Washburn Center for Children is committed to offering families professional therapeutic services to help children experiencing depression, anxiety, behavioral difficulties, trauma or other mental health challenges. We are currently interviewing for unpaid internship positions this summer and fall. The Day Treatment and Family Focused programs provide milieu therapy to children from preschool through early elementary school age. Children come to the center for the milieu therapy four half days a week, all year round. During the summer interns volunteer 4 half days a week, Monday through Thursday in the afternoon, 12:45 pm to 4:15 pm. During the fall interns volunteer 2 half days a week. The schedules that are available are Monday and Wednesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Monday and Wednesday afternoons, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Morning schedules go from 9:00am to 12:30pm and afternoon schedules go from 12:45pm to 4:15pm. Interns will have the opportunity to work with a teacher team in providing therapeutic support to the children to foster emotional and behavioral regulation skills, support emerging social and coping skills, and promote developmental growth. In addition to internship placements working directly with children we will also have an internship position available working with our Development and External Relations team supporting a variety of marketing, fundraising and event planning projects. 11. Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes Hiring Summer Tutors 
Lindamood-Bell is an internationally recognized leader in the research and remediation of learning difficulties. We are looking for energetic, positive individuals to work as Clinicians (Tutors) in a Lindamood-Bell® Learning Center during the summer months. We teach students of all ages to read and comprehend to their potential, including those with a previous diagnosis such as dyslexia or an autism spectrum disorder. Our research-validated instruction is comprised of our programs, individualized instruction, and program implementation by our Instructional Quality (IQ) Team. As part of the IQ Team, the Instructor works one-to-one with students, delivering the steps of our programs as prescribed in each student’s lesson plan. 14. CLA Advising-Bruininks is Hiring 3 Peer Advisors: Priority Deadline April 4th
Looking for a great job for this SUMMER, FALL, and SPRING? CLA Advising-Bruininks Hall is looking for excellent students to join their team. Peer Advisers assist students with advising decisions, serve as a liaison between students and university programs and services, and assist in the provision of academic support services including referrals to other academic units and/or sources of academic learning such as tutors or career guidance professionals. This may be a particularly good fit for anyone interested in developing leadership skills and/or pursuing a career in counseling, higher education, or teaching.
